Who owns the copyright?
You will own the copyright for any documentation relating solely to your product or your company, on payment of the agreed fee.
Unless otherwise agreed in advance, Clearly Stated will retain the copyright for training materials when the contract has been to provide training services.
Can you use existing material?
Probably, but whether that is a cost-effective option or not depends on the quality and accuracy of your existing material and how closely it is aligned with your requirements.
How much do you charge for writing, editing or training?
Documentation (including online work) can be quoted using:
- An hourly rate – this is usually the best option when you are really unsure of the scope of the work.
- A fixed price – you pay exactly the same amount no matter how long the work takes, as long as the scope of the work (what you ask me to do) doesn’t change.
- A range – you have a guaranteed maximum and I have a guaranteed minimum. As with fixed price, the quote is only valid as long as the scope of the work does not change, but you benefit from helping me to work more quickly.
Training courses are priced for a single delivery of a course. A discount is given for subsequent deliveries of the same course.
How do I get a quote?
Get in touch (details on the Contact page). From here, the process really depends on the type of work. I need to ask a few questions to be sure that I can do what you need, including checking that I am available when you need me. Once we are both happy, I will send you quote (usually by email).
How do I get the documentation?
This will normally be specified as part of the agreement, but the options available include: email; placing the files on a secure web site for you to download them; on CD; hardcopy (printed) versions.
Can I make changes to the documentation later?
If you own the copyright (see Who owns the copyright?), then you can make as many changes as you like. Please make sure that changes are NOT attributed to Clearly Stated.
